what do you think

I found this on our local news site. I wanna know what you all think.

The abbreviation B.Y.O.B has taken on a new meaning. The River Church in Little Rock is inviting folks to bring their own bibles to a bar, hold the alcohol.

The River Church is holding their first official church service and to attract more of an attendance they say come as you are and worship with them at a bar.

Easter Sunday thousands of Arkansans will gather to pray in a traditional church setting. Pastor Shane Montgomery explains, "I think church is wherever you go so the location of church is less important as it is the heart of the people that are there."

That's why Pastor Montgomery wants to be different, and hold his first official church service at the Rev room in a private section of the Rumba bar.

He adds, "We're sponsoring what we call Bar Church and basically we're doing church in a bar. I believe Jesus came to Earth and we need to go where people are just like us and if he can do that we can do that too."

Montgomery says many folks who don't attend church are spiritual, but intimidated by the church setting. He says alcohol will not be served, but the idea is if people don't go to church, church is going where the people are.

"We want people to realize you can come to our church with all the stuff you struggle with and feel like you're loved and accepted," Montgomery says.

But not everyone agrees, Robert Pleasant says, "I don't think its right for them to hold church at a bar it's not appropriate to do that."

Michael Weed adds, "That's one of the things that makes this country great though because we worship when and where we please and we worship who we please."

Montgomery says they will also hold Good Friday services at the River Market and they will continue to hold services at non-conventional locations.

"We may not always meet in a bar, but our commitment is we'll meet at a place that's not threatening to people that want to know God," Montgomery concludes.

The church is nondenominational and has about 30 members. Pulaski Heights Christian Church in Little Rock has offered their Fellowship Hall on Sunday at 5 p.m. for future services.

The River Church will hold Good Friday service at 7 p.m. on the third floor of the River Market.

Easter service will be at the Rev Room at 11 a.m.

He's correct in saying that church isn't the building, it's the members of the body gathering together. Not sure about meeting in a bar, but if that's what he feels God is telling his church to do, more power to them! :)
